05/12/2024 - Macdonald Lodge member W.Bro John Morgan paid a visit to assist 'Nishkam SWAT', a worthy charity the lodge has supported for a long time.

Report from John :

I visited their HQ in Springfield road in Hayes. They have a small warehouse full of food and drink. It was pleasing to see that the large companies such as Asda and Costco donate generously. Asda dropped off a full pallet of Christmas mince pies. Costco 12 pallets of bottled water. Plus thermal clothing.

In one store rooms there is wall to ceiling with cereals, sugar, tea, coffee and tinned and jared foods. All for local food banks.

I worked on preparing the drinks biscuits and cereal bars for SWAT teams who would be picking up their vans to drive to Camden town and The Strand. The Strand will feed between 200 to 250 homeless people. Starting at 1900 to 2130.

Local businesses also chip in. Local forklift drivers help moving pallets about. Making the challenge way easier.

We also prepared three large thermal flasks to hold hot water. A local cafe will boil the water we need about 1700. To supply hot drinks.

Food. We prepared three thermal boxes to hold cooked rice. And one huge saucepan. To hold cooked chicken for over 200 people. All sourced and cooked off site.

Without the help from local businesses and from us. That well oiled machine would struggle.

I will be attending The Strand site on Tuesday evening. Plus over the seasonal period.
